My secret to Perfect glittering ornaments!

Picture

I have a reputation for glitter. I have gone through many phases and they all include glitter. Sometimes less glitter, sometimes more... sometimes colored, big flakes, micro sized, AB, iridescent and sometimes just plain white. No matter how far into experimenting I wander when it I get serious about glittering I have one true method I always come back to.

I learned about this glitter when I worked at a place called We Are Magic in San Antonio Texas building Christmas displays for hotels and parties. TWINKLETS! This is the glitter you look at and wonder how they got glitter to look like that. This is not glitter for the faint of heart - it is real glass and with the way it sparkles it may as well be real crystal.

I never use glue when I glitter, instead I use TRIPLE THICK glaze by Americana because it creates an almost baked like hardness and transparency to the glittered surface.

Another cool thing about this glitter and glaze combo is that you can glitter over layers of glitter without any milky build up for a really encrusted look.

I always apply the glaze in sections and never leave a straight edge. If you glitter in zig-zaggity edges then when you work on the next section there will be no visible seam

Finally, toothpicks... toothpicks in the configuration shown below are the best way to hold something up when waiting for all that lovely glitter to dry.

So there you are, twenty years of glittering and some industry glitter secrets to get your holiday sparkle on.

I would love to see what make sparkle so send me your pictures and I might post them on the blog!
