I was born in Anchorage, Alaska but for the most part I grew up in San Antonio, Texas. I have lived in some incredibly beautiful places throughout Texas, California, Colorado and Alaska. In 1993 I discovered a beautiful little coastal town where the redwoods meet the sea and made it my home. I've lived in Santa Cruz, CA over twenty years now. I've studied art and creative writing with some remarkable teachers at the University of Texas in San Antonio, UT Austin, the Naropa Institute, Cabrillo College in Santa Cruz and the Neoteric Renaissance School of Art also in Santa Cruz. I mentored under artists Lisa Silas and Matthew Riggs, both alumni of the Florence Academy of Art and have studied in online atelier programs and realist workshops with multiple classical art instructors, including Artist/Educator Sadie Valerie and Water colorist Mario Robinson. I maintain a strong focus on my representational art practice while at the same time exploring a personal symbolism. What engages me the most about making art is the process - process as participation in a creative force that we are a ripple of. In the process of creating, you may actually do a whole lot of forgetting. In flow, you forget your doubts about what you can and cannot do, you forget the words of your lessons and for a minute you may actually forget yourself. It is in this way that you actually come to remember even things you did not know you knew. You find answers to many questions and if you are really engaged in the process your best results evolve naturally. |
